As a Housing Solicitor at Foster & Foster Solicitors I conduct a wide range of housing cases including defending possession proceedings, counterclaims for disrepair, homelessness and housing allocations and illegal eviction. I also conduct a wide range of public law and community care cases which relate to housing. I have conducted cases in the County Courts, the Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal. I will be the supervisor for Public Law from 1 September 2018. I am the Legal Aid CCMS Administrator.
After graduating from University I initially worked for a large publishing company. I also volunteered for the homeless charity Centrepoint in their emergency night shelter for young homeless people. I then went on to work for the Big Issue Magazine in their advertising sales department for 3 years. As a result of my work experience, I became interested in a career in law because I could see what a huge difference a solicitor could make to someone’s life when they were often in a very vulnerable situation. I therefore decided to train to be a solicitor and worked for a large central London legal aid firm to gain legal experience in their Family, Personal Injury and Housing departments while I studied the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course on a part-time basis. Once I had completed the academic stage of qualification I worked for Fisher Meredith Solicitors as a Paralegal in their Housing Department for a year before gaining a training contract with the Community Law Partnership in Birmingham. I trained with the Community Law Partnership and qualified in 2010. I then continued to work for the Community Law Partnership following qualification. I then joined Foster & Foster in 2013 as an Assistant Solicitor where I specialise in Housing, Community Care and Public Law and earlier in Welfare Benefits.
I achieve successful outcomes for tenants and homeless applicants in housing litigation using Legal Aid and where appropriate community care legislation and public law remedies.
I work flexibly from the office and from home.
Notable cases include:
Makisi and Others v Birmingham City Council EWCA Civ 355 (representing the 2nd appellant)
HB v LB Haringey The County Court at Central London 29 January 2018 (Housing: recent developments Legal Action March 2018)
I am a member of the Housing Law Practitioners Association (HLPA).
